My name is Noor Elassir and This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign. I am working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission, and reach my fundraising goal of $35,000.

This past summer, I created an AI Machine Learning project where I trained a model to differentiate between healthy and cancerous premature Leukemia blasts. Leukemia is the #1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer, with 80% of all Leukemia diagnoses being in children. My project's purpose was to provide a minimally invasive way for doctors to confirm a cancer diagnosis.

While researching, I saw the extensive amount of research that had been done. (even citing LLS as one of my sources.) But I also found many gaps in research due to insufficient funding. I want to further get involved with this cause to create opportunities for researchers to fill those gaps and create a meaningful impact with my campaign.

As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:

• Funds cutting-edge research leading to breakthroughs in immunotherapy, genomics and personalized medicine that are improving and saving the lives of patients
• Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families, including personalized, one-on-one support, assistance with identifying and enrolling in clinical trials, and more.
• Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes that accelerate the development of new cancer treatments and break down barriers to care.
